Otters prevail in opener

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. – New team captain Brian Lee scored what turned out to be the game winner with just over five minutes remaining in regulation to lift the Erie Otters to a 3-1 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in an Ontario Hockey League game played tonight in front of 2,807 at the Sault Memorial Gardens.

The game was the season opener for both clubs. Geoff Platt and Mike Blunden netted the other Otters goals while Tomas Galasek collected two assists.

Jeff Larsh scored for the Greyhounds.

The game was scoreless after one and the two teams were tied at one after two.

Josh Disher started and turned aside 25 of the 26 shots he faced. Jakub Cech took loss in a 23-save performance.

The three stars of the game were 1. Cech; 2. Disher and 3. Platt.

The Otters return to action Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. when they travel to Sudbury to take on the Wolves. The game can be heard in its entirety on SportsRadio 1330 The FAN and at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) immediately following Pittsburgh Steelers Football.

The Otters 2004-2005 Home Opener will take place Saturday, October 2nd when the Kitchener Rangers pay a visit to the Tullio Arena for a 7:30 p.m. start.
