Majors tie Colts 3-3 in season opener

TORONTO – Ryan Wilson's power-play goal early in the third period completed a Toronto comeback as the Toronto St. Michael's Majors tied the Barrie Colts 3-3 in the Ontario Hockey League season opener for both teams Wednesday night at Toronto St. Michael's College School Arena.

The Colts took a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Hunter Tremblay just 1:33 into the game and from Lukas Bolf on a power-play at 18:08. Bolf scored another power-play marker at 7:02 of the second period to make it 3-0.

However cheered on by a standing room only crowd of 1,396, including Majors and Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk, the Majors started their rally with a power-play goal by Travis Elder at 16:43 of the second period.

Connor Cameron made it 3-2 with his goal with just seven seconds left in the second period, and Wilson's slap shot from the slot at 2:14 of the third period beat Barrie goalie Jeff Weber cleanly to tie the game.

Majors new Director of Hockey Operations and Head Coach Bud Stefanski made his debut behind the bench for Toronto, while Marty Williamson also debuted behind the Barrie bench.

The Majors out-shot the Colts 31-30, as Justin Peters made 28 saves in goal for St. Mike's and was very sharp, especially in the early going when the Majors were out-shot 10-2 in the first half of the opening period.

Toronto is home again on Sunday at 2 p.m. against the Peterborough Petes, who are being coached once again this season by legendary coach Dick Todd. Tickets for the game and for all Majors home games can be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at (416) 872-5000, or on-line at www.ticketmaster.ca.
