Matia Marcantuoni scored two goals en-route to the Kitchener Rangers 6-2 victory over the Owen Sound Attack. Tonight's win places the Rangers in a tie with the Attack for second place in the OHL's Western Conference.
Ryan Lopes put Kitchener up 1-0 by 10:29 of the first period after scoring his first goal as a Rangers player, his second of the season. Less than a minute later, Tobias Rieder buried a pass from the corner, past Attack netminder Jordan Binnington to make it 2-0 Rangers. Owen Sound's Brayden Rose replied with his first goal of the year just 37-seconds after Rieder, to make it a one goal game. Matia Marcantuoni restored the Rangers two goal lead after he scored off a one-timer at the 13:45 mark. Kitchener out-shot Owen Sound 12-8 in the period.
Gabriel Landeskog scored right off a face-off in the Attack's zone at 3:38 of the second to put the Rangers up 4-1. Marcantuoni scored his second of the game to increase Kitchener's lead 5-1 by the 8:25 mark. The Rangers had a 19-11 shooting edge over the Attack in the period.
Owen Sound's Ben Dubois put away a rebound to make it a 5-2 hockey game at the 1:25 mark of the third period. Jamie Doornbosch scored with a shot from the point at 15:23 to increase the Rangers lead 6-2.
Kitchener outshot Owen Sound 43-33 in the game.
Notes: Murphy, Marcantuoni, Catenacci and Landeskog tallied three points each in the win.
The Rangers travel to Owen Sound on Sunday, December 12th for a 2:00pm game versus the Attack. They return to home ice on Friday, December 17th to host the Guelph Storm. Game time is 7:30 pm.
