Rangers Close Northern Swing against the North Bay Battalion on Sunday

North Bay, ON - The Kitchener Rangers head to North Bay for their second stop on their northern swing to face the out-of-conference Battalion on Sunday afternoon. Puck drop is set for 2 pm at The North Bay Memorial Gardens.

Last Meeting:

The Rangers last saw North Bay on November 3rd when the Rangers collected a 5-2 win at home. Rangers Mitchell Martin, Tanner Lam, and Cameron Mercer all grabbed a goal each, and Carson Rehkopf registered two. Ty Nelson (Seattle Kraken) is the only current Battalion skater to score a goal this season against the Rangers.

Over the Years:

Dating back to the 2016-17 season the Rangers and Battalion have played each other 11 times with the Rangers holding an 8-2-1-0 record. When playing in North Bay the Rangers have a 2-2-1-0 record. The Rangers have netted 49 goals while the Battalion have scored 35 in these 11 games.

Team Statistics:

The Rangers own the fourth-best power play converting at 26.8% and while on the road dropping to ninth in the league at 22.6%. The Battalion sit 10th in the league's power play at 19.6%.

Kitchener owns the fourth-best penalty kill at 81.8%. North Bay is currently placed eighth in the league's penalty kill at 81.3% and while playing on home ice drops to 13th at 76.6%.

In Kitchener's 39 games played the Rangers have netted 183 goals which is 36 more than the Battalion's 147. The Battalion has 21 more goals against then the Rangers this season.

Last Time Out:

The Kitchener Rangers were in Sudbury on Saturday night taking on the Wolves finishing the game with a 7-5 loss. Carson Rehkopf in his first game back from the World Juniors recorded his third hat trick of the season along with an assist. Matthew Sop had a goal and Hunter Brzustewicz grabbed a goal and assist. Luke Ellinas and Adrian Misaljevic both had two assists. Kyle Morey, Carson Campbell, and Trent Swick each finished the game with an assist.

Rangers to Watch:

Carson Rehkopf recorded his ninth multi-point game after a four-point (3G, 1A) stand-out night on Saturday. Rehkopf has played 32 games this season and has the third-most goals (34), seventh-most power-play goals (11), sixth-most first goals (6), and third-most insurance (6) in the CHL with a 31-25-59 stat line. Against the Battalion this season, Rehkopf has two goals and an assist.

Hunter Brzustewicz extended his point streak to seven games after recording two points on Saturday (1G, 1A). Brzustewicz remains the OHL point leader with eight goals and 54 assists for 62 points. He has the most assists and the seventh most points in the CHL. Against North Bay this season, Brzustewicz had one assist in the first meeting on November 3rd.

Matthew Sop is third in points for the Rangers and fourth in the OHL with 23 goals and 34 assists for 57 points. Over the last 10 games, Sop has nine points (4G, 5A).

The North Bay Battalion last hit the ice in Ottawa against the 67's taking home a 5-2 win heading into Sunday's game. Battalion skaters Brice Cooke (1G), Dalyn Wakely (1G, 2A), Ty Nelson (Seattle Kraken - 1G), Anthony Romani (2G), Paul Christopoulos (1A), Tnias Mathurin (Detroit Red Wings - 2A), Ihnat Pazii (1A) and Owen Van Steensel (1A) all registered points to help secure the win. The Battalion currently has three wins over their last five games, collecting seven of a possible ten points.

Battalion to Watch:

Anthony Romani leads the Battalion and follows behind Rangers Brzustewicz and Rehkopf in league points with a 30-29-59 stat line. Romani is second in the OHL for goals, fifth in the CHL for goals, and eighth in CHL points. Romani is currently on a 14-game point streak with 26 points, including 12 goals, and 14 assists.

Dalyn Wakely is second in points for the Battalion with 18 goals and 31 assists for 49 points. He is currently on a six-game point streak in which he has recorded six goals and three assists for nine points. Wakely has tallied two goals against the Rangers in three games played in his OHL career, both goals occurring last season.

Owen Van Steensel has a 16-25-41 stat line for the Battalion which is good enough for third on the team in points. Van Steensel is on a five-game point streak with one goal and five assists.

Sunday afternoon's action vs the North Bay Battalion will be televised live throughout Kitchener and the Waterloo Region on Rogers TV, cable channel 20, and can be watched across the province of Ontario on the Super Sports Pak on channel 470 for cable subscribers.
