Rangers Agree to Terms with Forward Cristoval Nieves

NEW YORK - New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Cristoval Nieves on an entry-level contract.

Nieves, 22, skated in 35 games with the University of Michigan this season, registering 10 goals and 21 assists for 31 points, along with a plus-nine rating and 18 penalty minutes. He established collegiate career-highs in goals, points, and plus/minus rating, and tied his collegiate career-high in assists while helping the Wolverines win the Big Ten Championship. Nieves ranked fifth on the team in assists and tied for sixth in points in 2015-16. Nieves notched at least one point in 22 of 35 games during the season. In addition, he recorded 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists) in 20 games against teams in the Big Ten Conference.

The 6-3, 201-pounder skated in 144 career collegiate games over four seasons with the Wolverines, registering 28 goals and 82 assists for 110 points, along with a plus-10 rating and 72 penalty minutes. Nieves recorded 21 assists in three of his four seasons at the University of Michigan, and he posted a plus-three rating or better in each of his final three seasons (plus-15 rating over the span). He ranked fifth or higher on the Wolverines in assists in each of his four seasons, and he led the team in assists during his freshman year in 2012-13.

The Syracuse, New York native was selected by the Rangers in the second round, 59th overall, of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
