Bears Return Goaltender Mark Dekanich to Stingrays

HERSHEY, Pa. - The Hershey Bears announced today that goaltender Mark Dekanich has been returned on loan to the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays. The announcement was made by Bears President/General Manager Doug Yingst.

Dekanich, 29, did not appear in a game on his most recent recall to the Bears, but did play in one game on December 27. He returns to the South Division-leading Stingrays where he has posted a record of 17-9-2 with two shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.14 and a save percentage of .926. He ranks sixth in the ECHL in goals-against average and fourth in save percentage.

The 6-2, 192-pound native of North Vancouver, British Columbia spent the last two seasons playing for Zagreb Medvescak of the KHL. His last AHL season prior to heading overseas was spent with the St. John's IceCaps, with which he went 11-9-6 with three shutouts, a goals-against average of 2.98 and save percentage of .895 in 2012-13. He represented the Western Conference at the 2011 AHL All-Star Classic held in Hershey while playing for the Milwaukee Admirals.

Prior to turning pro, Dekanich played four years of college hockey at Colgate University, amassing a record of 52-45-16 over 118 games. He was originally selected by the Nashville Predators in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
