San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (November 10, 2009) - The San Antonio Rampage and Christus Santa Rosa are teaming up to join in the fight against pediatric cancer by introducing the "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" program during the 2009-10 season.
"Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" is a program that will pair Rampage hockey players with children from the Centers for Oncology and Blood Disorders at Christus Santa Rosa, in either early stages of treatment for pediatric cancer or in remission, through a series of social events over a five-month period with the hope of generating lasting relationships and increasing awareness about childhood cancer in the community.
In addition, the program will feature a number of fundraising ventures throughout the course of the season, with proceeds benefiting Christus Santa Rosa and "Caps For Kids", a national non-profit organization which provides hats and scarves autographed by athletes and celebrities to children who lose their hair due to the effects of chemotherapy treatments.
The program's first event of the season, a pizza party courtesy of Cici's Pizza, will be held tomorrow evening from 7-9 p.m. at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital (Downtown) where each child will meet and spend time with his or her player for the first time.
"Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" will highlight several events throughout the course of the season, including special introductions of the participating children on the ice at a designated Rampage game, during which each child will be presented with a special surprise keepsake from his or her player.
Originally initiated by the Mississippi Sea Wolves Hockey Club in 2003 and duplicated by the Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies Hockey Club and the Phoenix RoadRunners Hockey Club, "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" has touched hundreds of lives and raised thousands of dollars since its inception.
