Rampage Top Wolves for Binnington's 100th Win

SAN ANTONIO, TX - Klim Kostin scored the third of a season high three power play goals for the San Antonio Rampage (2-8-0) and Jordan Binnington earned his 100th career victory, as the Rampage returned to the win column with a 3-2 decision over the Chicago Wolves (6-2-1) on Sunday afternoon at the AT&T Center.

Binnington stopped 25 shots to reach the milestone, a win that was also his first as a member of the Rampage. The Rampage became the first team this season to hold Chicago to fewer than three goals in a game.

Kostin recorded the eventual game-winner, giving the Rampage a 3-1 lead at 10:02 of the third period. Stationed in front of Chicago goaltender Max Lagace, Kostin redirected a Mith Reinke shot from the left circle down between Lagace's legs for his second goal of the season.

Mackenzie MacEachern opened the scoring for San Antonio at 6:34 of the second period with his second goal of the season, a power play goal to give the Rampage a 1-0 lead. Joey LaLeggia's shot from the right point was blocked, but the puck worked its way through the maze of bodies to the front of the net where MacEachern was waiting for a spinning shot past Lagace.

Trevor Smith extended the lead at 11:03 of the second period during a 5-on-3 power play for San Antonio, finishing a one-timer from the slot on a feed by Brian Flynn for his third goal of the season. The power played stemmed from a major penalty and game misconduct to Chicago's Alex Gallant for punching Carl Gunnarsson, followed by a tripping call on Gage Quinney.

The Wolves drew to within a goal with their own power play tally at 6:40 of the third, with former Texas Stars forward Curtis McKenzie redirecting an Erik Brannstrom point shot past Binnington for his second goal of the season to make it 2-1. Wolves coach Rocky Thompson pulled his goaltender for the power play, making it a 6-on-4 with over 14 minutes left to play.

Quinney scored shorthanded at 15:05 of the third with a shot off the rush from the left wing past Binnington, his sixth goal of the season and the third shorthanded goal surrendered by San Antonio this season.

Binnington was strong throughout to preserve the win, facing 14 shots in the third period and turning aside chances from Brandon Pirri and Brooks Macek in the final minute. Binnington robbed Keegan Kolesar with a right pad stop in the second period, stifling a 2-on-1 chance. In the first period, Binnington sprawled across the net to stop Quinney as the Chicago forward walked out of the corner and drove to the front of the net.

The San Antonio win snapped an eight-game losing streak as the team prepares for a four-game road trip through California that ends in Austin.

The Rampage hit the ice on Friday at SAP Center to meet the San Jose Barracuda for a 9 p.m. CT puck-drop. The game is available on The Ticket 760AM and on AHLTV.
