Rampage Top Stars on Stevens' OT Winner

SAN ANTONIO, TX - Nolan Stevens netted his first career overtime goal at 3:44 of the extra session on Saturday night in front of 5,959 fans at the AT&T Center, as the Rampage (13-16-1) grabbed a 2-1 win over the Texas Stars (15-10-4) to head into the three-day Christmas break on a winning note.

Minutes after failing to convert on a back-door feed in overtime, Stevens got another chance when Sammy Blais drifted into the left-wing circle and slid a pass into the Texas crease. Stevens swatted at the puck and squeezed it through a sliding Justin Dowling for his third goal of the season.

With the victory, San Antonio has won four straight at the AT&T Center, as well as eight of its last nine on home ice.

The Rampage dominated overtime, outshooting the Stars 5-3 in the extra session and nearly ending the game earlier on shots by Ryan Olsen and Jordan Kyrou that were turned aside by Stars goaltender Landon Bow. With Stevens' winner, the Rampage are 2-1 this season during the 3-on-3 overtime and 4-1 overall in games that go beyond regulation.

Adam Mascherin opened the scoring for Texas at 2:19 of the second period, finishing the rebound of Dowling wrap-around for his 13th goal of the season. Mascherin has ten goals in his last 12 games for Texas.

The Rampage responded at 14:56 of the second period, with Stevens leading a 4-on-2 rush. Stevens gained the Stars blueline and fed a pass to Kyrou on the right wing. Kyrou snapped a wrist shot past Bow for his seventh goal of the season, tying him for the team lead.

Kyrou's goal extended his points streak to eight consecutive games, the longest streak by a Rampage player this season. He has six goals and 15 points during that eight-game span.

Ville Husso stopped 30 of 31 shots to earn his fifth win of the season. Husso has won three of his last four starts, giving up ten goals over that span.

The Rampage held the Texas power play scoreless, snapping a streak of five consecutive games in which the Stars had scored a power play goal.

With an assist on Stevens' overtime goal, Joey LaLeggia has points in five straight games with a goal and four assists.

The Rampage return from the Christmas break on Thursday for another tilt with the Stars, their eighth meeting of the season, at the HEB Center at Cedar Park. Puck-drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT., with the game available on The Ticket 760AM and on AHLTV.
