San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN JOSE, CA (Nov. 5, 2016) - The San Antonio Rampage (4-6-0-0) collected their fourth road win of the season in a thrilling 6-5 victory over the San Jose Barracuda (2-2-0-1) on Saturday at the SAP Center. Forward A.J. Greer's assist in the second period tied the franchise assist streak record as he picked up his seventh helper in as many games.
Joe Whitney collected his first goal of the season en route to a two-goal game and the First Star of the Game. J.T. Compher, who also had two points on the night alongside Whitney and Greer, landed his fifth goal of the season to tie Bridgeport's Michael Dal Colle for the most rookie goals in the 2016-17 campaign.
San Jose took an early lead in the first period with a goal from Barclay Goodrow just 56 seconds into regulation. San Antonio responded at the tail end of its first power play, when Whitney's first Rampage goal tied the game with 12:59 left to play. Rocco Grimaldi tipped a blocked shot in between the pipes with 7:16 left on the clock in the first period to give the Rampage their first lead of the game. The Barracuda cashed in-less than 30 seconds later, however, when Nikita Jevpalovs danced around Rampage defenders to score with 6:49 to play.
San Antonio struck again for the lead early in the second stanza, when Greer netted a pass from Ryan Stanton during a Rampage power play just 62 seconds into the period. San Jose tied the game for the third time when Nikolay Goldobin scored with 15:34 remaining. The Barracuda regained the lead when Ryan Carpenter netted a goal with 12:52 left in the stanza. The lead was cut short by Compher's second goal with 3:25 to go in the third period, which ended with both teams knotted at 4.
Two goals early in the third period gave San Antonio its biggest lead of the night. Whitney and Gabriel Bourque found the back of the net just 22 seconds apart, with 17:34 and 17:12 left in regulation for the fastest back-to-back goals scored by the Rampage this season. San Jose answered with a goal from Daniel O'Regan on the power play with 12:29 remaining in the game, but was unable to catch up to San Antonio, despite pulling the netminder to obtain the man advantage.
