Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Mike Halmo scored the game-winning goal early in the third period to give the Syracuse Crunch a 2-1 victory over the Utica Comets tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
Erik Condra tallied his second goal in as many games to open scoring early in the second period before the Comets evened it up late in the frame. Halmo netted the eventual game-winner less than two minutes into the third to push the Crunch to 6-3-0-0 on the season and 1-1-0-0 in the 12-game Galaxy Cup season series.
Adam Wilcox stood strong between the pipes, earning his third consecutive victory in net for the Crunch with a 23-save performance. Richard Bachman stopped 25-of-27 shots. Syracuse went 1-for-5 on the power play, while the penalty kill unit was 5-for-6.
After a scoreless first period, the Crunch netted a power-play goal at the 6:16 mark of the middle frame. Condra received a pass from Cory Conacher, rushed down ice on a breakaway and fired. Bachman came out of his cage to break up the play, but deflected the puck off his own defenseman and back into the net.
With 1:33 remaining in the frame, the Comets knotted the score, 1-1, with a 5-on-3 advantage. Michael Chaput sent a feed to the left circle for Alexandre Grenier to one-time past Wilcox.
The Crunch went back on top less than two minutes into the third period. A loose puck got chipped into the slot for Halmo to send home for his third of the season. Yanni Gourde and Conacher earned points on the game-winner.
The Crunch will host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.
