San Antonio Rampage News Release

SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage (24-29-8-0) held a two-goal lead late in the third period, only to see it slip away in a 5-4 loss to the Pacific Division-leading Ontario Reign (34-14-3-1) in front of 3,382 at the AT&T Center on Wednesday night.

Alex Belzile led the Silver and Black with two goals, his first multi-goal effort of the season, to earn the Third Star of the Game.

After a scoreless first period in which Ontario outshot the Rampage 14-9, the Reign scored two quick goals early in the middle stanza. Vincent LoVerde got the visiting team on the board at the 2:15 mark, firing a blast from the right circle on the break. Kevin Gravel lit the lamp just 22 seconds later to make it 2-0.

The Rampage controlled the rest of the period, as Mikko Rantanen scored his team-leading 21st of the season at 4:13, and Sam Henley picked up his fourth of the season to knot the game at two after 40 minutes of play.

San Antonio scored their third unanswered goal near the midway point of the final frame, as Alex Belzile punched in a rebound off Garrett Thompson's shot to give the Rampage their lead of the night, 3-2. Belzile scored again just over two minutes later, and San Antonio appeared to be headed for their third win of the season over the division leaders.

With Peter Budaj on the bench, the Reign scored two extra-attacker goals - one from Jonny Brodzinski and the other off the stick of Gravel - to even the game at four with less than two minutes remaining. Nic Dowd, who finished with a goal and two assists to earn the First Star of the Game, tallied the game winner at 18:49 to seal a 5-4 win for Ontario and stun the crowd at the AT&T Center.

Reto Berra finished with 37 saves on 42 shots, and both teams were scoreless on two power-play opportunities.

Notes

With his 21st goal of the season, Rantanen is one goal and one point away from tying the Rampage's franchise rookie records in each category... With the primary assist on Rantanen's second-period tally, Dennis Everberg notched his 50th pro point... Wednesday marked the 50th professional game for Justin Hamonic... Cody Corbett extended his point streak to two games.

Lineup Notes

Still ravaged by injuries and an illness that has swept through the locker room, the Rampage once again skated with 11 forwards and six defensemen. Mikko Rantanen returned to the lineup and skated on San Antonio's top line with Andrew Agozzino and Reid Petryk. Garry Nunn, who was signed to a professional tryout contract on Tuesday, played on the third line with Garrett Thompson and Sam Henley.
