Forward Rocco Grimaldi Moves to Fourth All-Time on Rampage Goal List After Two-Goal Night
CEDAR PARK, Texas - Rocco Grimaldi registered his eighth career 3-on-3 overtime winner as the San Antonio Rampage (17-12-2-0) defeated the Texas Stars (18-11-2-1) 5-4 in their annual Teddy Bear Toss Night on Wednesday at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park. Grimaldi's second-period goal moved the forward to fourth all-time on the Rampage goal list, surpassing former Rampage captain Greg Rallo (55g).
San Antonio opened the scoring midway through the first frame when Dominic Toninato cleaned up a rebounding Brendan Ranford shot at the 10:18 mark.
Texas evened the game at one just 38 seconds into the second period when Travis Morin found Curtis McKenzie in front of the net, who found the back of the cage and sent the teddy bears onto the ice. The Rampage regained the lead when Nicolas Meloche finished a no-look backhanded pass from Toninato for a power-play goal at 12:59. Grimaldi extended San Antonio's lead with 76 seconds remaining in the stanza when he went coast-to-coast on the power play for his 56th goal in a Rampage sweater.
McKenzie tallied his second of the night at the 6:18 mark of the third period as the Stars capitalized on the on the power play. San Antonio regained a two-goal lead nearly two minutes later when Alex Belzile recorded an unassisted goal at 8:31 for his fourth of the season. Texas sparked a rally late in regulation, registering goals at 17:02 and 17:37 from Gavin Bayreuther and McKenzie, respectively. McKenzie's hat trick tied the game at four and ultimately forced the contest into overtime.
Grimaldi landed the game winner 1:54 into the overtime period when he went low blocker on Stars netminder Landon Bow, securing a 5-4 Rampage victory.
