San Antonio Rampage News Release
PEORIA, Ill. - The Rampage scrapped their way to a physical 4-1 victory Tuesday night in Peoria that brought them two points closer to third place.
David LeNeveu helped kick-start the 14-game Rodeo Road Trip, allowing one regulation goal for the second time in as many games as the Rampage (23-13-2-4) moved to within three points of the Peoria Rivermen (24-13-4-3) in the AHL West Division.
LeNeveu, who had a season-high 38 saves Sunday against Toronto, made 28 stoppers on 29 shots for his seventh win of the season in a game that featured three fights.
Peoria threw the first punch with an early power-play goal from Mickey DuPont at 6:42 of the opening frame.
The Rampage countered quickly, with Chris Durno grabbing his own rebound and blasting the puck in off the crossbar to knot things up at 1-1 later in the period. The goal was Durno's fifth in seven games and defenseman Ryan Caldwell picked up his 100th professional/AHL point with the helper.
The Rampage's second goal of the night also came as a result of their strong second-effort. Straight out of the box from an earlier scrum, Josh Gratton slapped a shot at Peoria netminder Marek Schwarz. Nate DiCasmirro found the caroming puck and lit the lamp to give the Rampage a 2-1 lead with 84 seconds left in the second period.
Joey Tenute added insurance with a one-timer 2:07 into the final frame for a 3-1 Rampage advantage and added an empty-net goal with 94 seconds remaining. The markers were Nos. 16 and 17 of the year for the Rampage center, who was recently named to the 2008 Canadian All-Star roster. The two goals also give Tenute 99 for his professional career.
The Rampage have won both games this season in Peoria, after previously only having two wins there all-time.
The Rampage will travel to Milwaukee to take on the Admirals. Game-time is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday night in the Bradley Center.
