San Antonio Rampage News Release
HAMILTON, Ont. (Feb. 17, 2014) - The San Antonio Rampage (22-21-3-5) won their fifth straight game this afternoon, defeating the Hamilton Bulldogs (22-23-1-4) 4-1 inside FirstOntario Centre.
The Rampage extended their point streak to 11 games, setting an American Hockey League season-high for the 2013-14 season. The win also sets a franchise record for consecutive road points with seven and ties a franchise record for consecutive road wins with five. It also clinches a winning Rodeo Road Trip for the third consecutive season.
The five-game winning streak for the Rampage is the longest since Jan. 14-28, 2012.
Colby Robak scored his third power-play goal of the year at 9:16 of the first period to make it 1-0. Captain Greg Rallo recorded his 300th career professional point with the primary assist on the tally and earned the game's First Star with two assists on the day. Drew Shore continued his red hot scoring touch, netting a goal in his fourth-straight game for the go-ahead goal 23 seconds into the second. The center now has five goals in his last six games with the Rampage, and was recognized with the Second Star. His marker was followed by defenseman Dylan Olsen, and then rookie Vince Trocheck scored his 15th of the year to tie Bobby Butler for the team lead.
Jacob Markstrom made 30-of-31 saves in the victory, as the Rampage held their opponent to a goal or less in their fifth-straight game.
For the fourth time in the six games so far of the Rodeo Road Trip, the Rampage struck first. Cycling on the game's first power play, Rallo fed Robak, and the defenseman let loose a blast from the blue line, beating Hamilton goaltender Robert Mayer to make it 1-0.
Ryan Martindale collected the secondary assist on Robak's sixth of the year to earn his 50th career professional point. Martindale has seven points (2g-5a) in his last 12 games. Of the four times the Rampage have opened the scoring in their last six games, three of the goals have come from defensemen.
With 1:12 remaining in the first, a turnover in the Rampage zone led to an equalizer from Patrick Holland, putting the 'Dogs on the board with his fifth of the year.
The second period was all Rampage. Outshooting the 'Dogs by a margin of 23-15 through the end of 40, the Silver and Black made them count. Shore scored in his fourth-straight game for the go-ahead goal just 23 seconds into the middle frame, and 1:38 later, Olsen snuck one past Mayer for the insurance goal.
Butler earned the primary assist on Shore's goal, giving him five assists in his last four games.
Hamilton had three straight power plays, but the Rampage kill has been phenomenal through the Rodeo Road Trip, and killed off all three chances.
Looking for a final push, Hamilton pulled their goalie with 2:24 remaining in regulation, but Trocheck found the empty net with 36 seconds left.
The Rampage's special teams were on point today, going 1-for-1 on the power play, and denying all four chances for the Bulldogs, with a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. Hamilton outshot the Rampage 31-30.
The Rampage get three days off before kicking off a three-in-three set this weekend. They travel first to western New York to take on the Rochester Americans on Friday (Feb. 21), and then face off with the Toronto Marlies on Saturday (Feb. 22), and finish up the weekend with another tilt with Hamilton on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 23). Fans can watch live with an AHL Live subscription, or listen live on The Ticket 760 AM, the official home of Rampage hockey.
