Clearwater Threshers News Release

CLEARWATER, Fla. - New Phillies addition Wilson Ramos made a rehab appearance for the Threshers, but the team was shut out on Super Hero night, 11-0 against St. Lucie at Spectrum Field.

Ramos was placed on the disabled list by the Tampa Bay Rays on July 15 with a left hamstring strain. Ramos was then traded to the Phillies at the deadline on July 31. He went 0-for-2 in his five innings of rehab work with the Threshers (30-18) (62-54).

Despite the loss, Clearwater still leads the FSL North, with 21 games remaining in the regular season.

St Lucie (20-27) (47-67) put up a two-spot in the third inning for the first run of the ballgame against Alejandro Requena (3-3). Gene Cone hit a line drive through to left for a base hit, and Michael Paez followed with an infield single. Ali Sanchez then drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases with two outs. With the bases loaded, Quinn Brodey delivered a line drive to left to score Cone and Paez, giving St. Lucie the 2-0 advantage.

Grenny Cumana gunned down Brodey at second to get the third out and end the inning. The outfield assist was Cumana's eighth of the season in just 29 games in the outfield.

The Mets added on in the fifth. Carpio walked and stole second to lead off the inning, and Cone and Paez hit back-to-back singles to score the runner. With no one out in the inning, the Threshers turned to their bullpen.

Blake Quinn came on, inheriting two baserunners. A wild pitch advanced the runners, followed by a walk that loaded the bases. Sanchez flung a sacrifice fly to plate one more and put runners at the corners with one out. Brodey drove a double into the right field corner bringing Paez home, and Anthony Dimino's liner through to center plated the final run of the inning, extending St. Lucie's lead 6-0.

St. Lucie broke away in the sixth inning. Cone walked, and Paez sent a fly ball into shallow center for a base hit with one out. Vazquez shot a line drive to right field to load the bases, Sanchez ensued with an RBI single of his own, and Brodey stepped up to the plate and fired a three-run home run to boost the Mets to a 11-0 lead.

Trevor Bettencourt hurled 1.2 scoreless innings, and Grant Dyer set down all six he faced for a clean two innings of relief.

The series wraps up on Sunday afternoon as Clearwater takes on St. Lucie at 1 p.m. at Spectrum Field. Mauiricio Llovera (4-7) takes on Joe Cavallaro (2-1) in the series finale. Kirsten Karbach will be on the call for the Threshers Broadcast Network with the pregame show beginning at 12:45 p.m.
