DAYTONA BEACH, FL - The Daytona Tortugas lost the first leg of their doubleheader 7-1 then dropped game two 6-5 on Friday night at Radiology Associates Field at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Despite the Tortugas scoring first in both games, the Jupiter Hammerheads found ways to battle back. The night started in a delay of over two hours.

Ibandel Isabel got the scoring started in the bottom of the fourth in game one, when he crushed a solo homerun, his 26th of the season, to put the Tortugas up 1-0.

Jupiter tied it in the fifth. Bryson Brigman led off the inning with a single off of RHP Aaron Fossas, stole second, moved to third on a fielder's choice and came into score on a wild pitch.

The Hammerheads took their first lead in the evening in the sixth. After Fossas retired the first two in the inning, Tristan Pompey hit a double to extend the frame, then scored on Riley Mahan's single the very next pitch to go up 2-1. The next two Jupiter hitters would reach to load the bases and chase Fossas from the game.

RHP Brian Hunter came on with two-outs and the bases loaded and surrendered a two-run double to Jhonny Santos to run the deficit to 4-1.

James Nelson blew the game open in the seventh when he hit a bases clearing, three-run double down the right field line off Hunter to run the Hammerhead lead to 7-1.

RHP Dustin Beggs (2-2) tossed a 7-inning complete game for the win. He allowed one run on three hits with seven strikeouts. Fossas (4-2) is handed the loss. He allowed four runs on four hits in 1 2/3 innings with a walk and a pair of strikeouts.

Randy Ventura walked to start the bottom of the first in game two and came around to score three pitches later on a two-run homerun from Isabel, his 27th of the year and second of the day, to put Daytona up 2-0.

RHP Andrew Jordan gave the lead right back in the top of the second after allowing back-to-back one-out solo homeruns to JC Millan and Cameron Baranek to tie the game at two.

Alfredo Rodriguez led off the bottom of the second with a triple and came into score the go-ahead run a few pitches later on an RBI groundout off the bat of Michael Beltre. Then with two away, Ventura extended the second with a two-out single, and came into score on the next pitch when Ibandel Isabel hit a two-run homerun to right, his 28th of the year, second of the game and third of the day, to extend Daytona's lead to 5-2.

Jupiter scored two in the third to cut the deficit to one. Pompey drew a leadoff walk, stole second and came into score on an RBI double from Nelson. Nelson moved to third on a single then scored with two-outs on an error from Alberti Chavez.

The Hammerheads took their first lead of game two in the sixth. After LHP Ty Boyles retired the first two, Michael Hernandez extended the inning with a double, moved to third on Brigman's infield single, and scored on a Pompey RBI single to tie it at five. Brigman moved up to second on the RBI, third on a wild pitch and scored on a Brantley Bell error to put Jupiter up 6-5.

RHP Zech Lemond (2-0) tossed two perfect innings in relief with four strikeouts for the game two win. Boyles (5-9) suffers the loss after allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in an inning with a strikeout. RHP Chad Smith earned his ninth save. He allowed a hit and recorded a strikeout over two-scoreless innings.

RHP Tommy Bergjans (2-2, 4.33) will get the Tortugas on Saturday. Jupiter will counter with Josh Roeder (5-2, 2.67).

First pitch Saturday is scheduled for 7:05 PM, with coverage beginning at 6:45 PM with the Metcare Pregame Show on AM 1230, AM 1490, and FM 106.9 WSBB.

NOTES: After starting the season 12-1 in doubleheader games, the Tortugas have dropped five of their last six... Daytona falls to 7-39 when trailing after 6 innings... LHP Kevin Canelon allowed a hit and a walk in four scoreless innings with four strikeouts in game one. As a starter, Canelon has a 1.29 ERA in 14 innings (2 earned runs) with 14 strikeouts... RHP Aaron Fossas has allowed a run in 6 straight appearances. He has allowed 13 runs in 9 1/3 innings during that span (12.54 ERA). His ERA went from 3.47 to 5.32... Alfredo Rodriguez tripled for the first time in his career... Brantley Bell stole 2 bases in the same game for the first time since 6/23. It's the 8th time he's done so in his career... Randy Ventura recorded a hit in both games, extending his hitting streak to 10-straight. He is 15-for-40 (.375) during that span... All three of Ibandel Isabel's hits tonight were homeruns. He drove in 5 of Daytona's 6 runs. Isabel extended his hitting streak to 8-straight, he is 14-for-34 (.412) during that span. He has 5 of Daytona's 7 multi-homerun games this season. He also leads the team with 4, 4+ RBI games.
