Rally Falls Short in Hoppers' Series Finale

August 22, 2008 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release

GREENSBORO - Greensboro's top three batters in the lineup combined for nine of Greensboro's 12 hits and accounted for three of the Hoppers' four runs, but the home team ultimately dropped the series finale against Greenville, 6-4, as the Drive scored the go-ahead run in the eighth and held off a ninth inning rally to garner a series split.

Emilio Ontiveros led all batters with four hits from the two-slot while leadoff man Ryan Curry chipped in with three and Mike Stanton added two.

The Hoppers scored first with a single run in the second inning and after losing the lead twice, battled back to tie the Drive before the visiting squad plated single runs in the eighth and ninth inning en route to the 6-4 victory.

Greensboro loaded the bases in the ninth inning, but unlike the previous night, the Hoppers were unable to plate any runs as the Drive managed to hold off another rally attempt.

With just nine games remaining in the 2008 season, the Hoppers open a four-game road trip against Kannapolis on Friday before returning home to wrap up the season with five games against Lexington on Aug. 28-Sept. 1.
