SALT LAKE CITY - The Tacoma Rainiers let a big inning get the best of them in a 5-3 loss to the Salt Lake Bees at Spring Mobile Ballpark on Sunday.

Tacoma surrendered an insurmountable five runs on five hits in the top of the first inning. Trent Oeltjen and Luis Rodriguez gave the Bees a 2-0 lead after scoring when Efren Navarro grounded into a fielder's choice. Scott Cousins and Luke Carlin drove in two more with run-scoring singles, and Jimmy Swift added another after plating Cousins from third on a ground out.

Infielder Carlos Triunfel accounted for each of Tacoma's three runs in the contest. Triunfel cleared the way for Carlos Peguero to score on a ground out in the sixth inning, and then drove in two more runs with a double in the seventh. Triunfel has now turned in multi-hit efforts in four of his last five games.

Outfielder Eric Thames recorded a double in the third inning to extend his current hitting streak to six games. Thames is currently the only player in the Pacific Coast League to have reached base safely in each of his team's first 18 games to begin the season.

Jeremy Bonderman (0-2) was dealt the loss after surrendering all five Bees runs in the first inning. The right-hander walked two and struck out two over a season-high 6.0 innings of work.

Left-handed reliever Lucas Luetge held Salt Lake to one hit and fanned three over two innings in the seventh and eighth.

The Rainiers (9-9) play the third game of the team's four-game series at Salt Lake at 5:35 p.m. tomorrow, April 22. Left-hander James Paxton (1-1, 3.68) is slated to start for Tacoma against right-hander A.J. Schugel (0-1, 8.25) for the Bees.
