Salt Lake City, UT - The Tacoma Rainiers (56-66) took a 3-2 series lead over the Salt Lake Bees (57-65) with a 10-4 victory on Saturday, as the clubs continued to alternate wins and losses during this weeklong set. The Rainiers are 11-9 on the road during the season's second half.

Tacoma took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on two homers. Brian O'Keefe's solo shot to left-center (12) was followed by an Erick Mejia double. Jonathan Villar then parked his first home run with the Rainiers, to right-center. The dingers traveled 414 and 443 feet respectively, in the thin Salt Lake City air. The Bees tallied their first run in the home second when Dillon Thomas drew a leadoff walk and scored on a Chad Wallach double.

Salt Lake cut the lead to a run in the third; Jake Palomaki (ground rule double) scored on a Michael Stefanic RBI single.

The Rainiers scored four times in the fourth, on five singles and an error. O'Keefe, Villar, Taylor Trammell, Evan White (2 RBI) and Kyle Lewis (2 RBI) had the base knocks to put Tacoma ahead 7-2. O'Keefe and Trammell ended their evenings with two hits apiece.

Spot starting out of the Tacoma bullpen, lefty Roenis Elias worked four complete innings, scattering only four hits. Both runs against him were earned. Angels right-hander Michael Lorenzen started on rehab for the Bees: 3.2 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 1 BB, 6 K.

In the sixth Villar manufactured the eighth Rainiers run, mostly by himself. He singled, stole second base, advanced to third on an error and scored on a Derek Hill sac fly. White made the score 9-2 with his third hit and second double, to center which scored Trammell (single). Villar picked up his fourth hit, a triple to center, in the seventh. That scored Abraham Toro (leadoff walk), the 10th Tacoma tally.

Salt Lake scored twice more in the seventh; Matt Duffy and Kean Wong each rapped RBI singles, but the Bees stranded the bases loaded to keep the Rainiers in control. Out of the Tacoma pen, RHPs Chris Mazza (2.0 IP), Patrick Weigel (1.0 IP) and Drew Steckenrider (1.0 IP) each worked scoreless outings.

The series finale will be on Sunday afternoon, a 12:05 PT/1:05 MT first pitch at Smith's Ballpark. Rainiers RHP Darren McCaughan will toe the rubber for Tacoma, against Salt Lake RHP Janson Junk, the Federal Way, WA native.
