Rainiers Ousted In Opener At OKC, 6-1

OKLAHOMA CITY - Mike Zunino and Carlos Peguero each turned in three-hit efforts as the Tacoma Rainiers were dealt a 6-1 series-opening loss to the Oklahoma City RedHawks at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark on Tuesday.

Tacoma gave up an insurmountable three runs in the bottom of the third inning. Andrew Simunic scored from third on a ground out, and Jake Elmore and Brett Wallace each drove in a run via a double and triple.

Outfielder Marc Krauss and the first baseman Wallace stretched the RedHawks lead to 6-0 after plating a combined three runs with homers in the fourth and eighth innings.

Zunino and Peguero combined to account for six of the Rainiers seven hits on Tuesday. Zunino racked up three singles, and Peguero was responsible Tacoma lone scoreboard appearance of the night after hitting a solo home run in the ninth - his fourth of the season and second over his last two games.

Reigning Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week Jeremy Bonderman (2-3) suffered the loss after surrendering four runs on seven hits over 7.0 innings. The right-hander walked one and struck out three.

The Rainiers (21-12) play the second game of the team's four-game series at Oklahoma City (19-12) at 9:05 a.m., tomorrow, May 8th. Left-hander James Paxton (2-2, 5.19) is slated to start for Tacoma in the outing against RedHawks right-hander Brad Peacock (0-0, -.--).
