Rainiers Fall To Fresno 7-1
April 15, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tacoma Rainiers News Release
FRESNO, CA -- Infielder Carlos Triunfel's first Triple-A home run accounted for one of Tacoma's four hits in the Rainiers 7-1 loss to the Fresno Grizzlies at Chukchansi Park on Sunday.
Trailing Fresno 2-0, Triunfel accounted for Tacoma's only run in the contest with a solo home run to left field in the top of the fourth inning. He ended the day leading the Rainiers lineup with a pair of hits. Triunfel is now riding a team-best six-game hitting streak, batting 9-for-26 (.346) with four extra-base hits and four RBI over that stretch.
Rainiers starter Matt Fox (0-3) struggled in the contest, and ended the day with his third consecutive loss. Fox allowed a season-high five runs on five hits over 5.1 frames, beginning with a two-run inning for the Grizzlies in the third. Justin Christian hit an RBI-double with one out and then scored on Francisco Peguero's ground out two batters later to give Fresno all the offense needed to top Tacoma on Sunday.
Current Grizzlies left-hander and former Rainiers pitcher Travis Blackley (1-0) picked up the win for Fresno after holding Tacoma to just one run on one hit with six strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Blackley appeared in 21 games with the Rainiers over parts of two seasons in 2004 and 2006.
The Rainiers play the club's series finale at Fresno at 7:05 p.m. on Monday, April 16. Right-hander Jeff Marquez (1-0, 9.00) is scheduled to get the start for Tacoma against Fresno left-hander Brian Burres (0-1, 8.10).
