Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
Albuquerque, NM - Veteran catcher Josh Bard singled in the game-winning run during a five-run seventh inning rally that catapulted Albuquerque past Omaha, 9-7, Sunday afternoon in the third of four meetings at Isotopes Park. The Storm Chasers collected 14 hits and drew five walks but fell for a second time in three games.
Ethan Hollingsworth took over for Storm Chasers starter Will Smith in the sixth inning and stranded two runners to maintain a 5-4 lead. Back-to-back solo shots by Clint Robinson and Max Ramirez in the top of the seventh extended the visitors advantage to 7-4 before things unraveled in the bottom of the inning.
The Isotopes loaded the bases with a hit, a walk and hit batter before a Tim Federowicz sacrifice fly trimmed the deficit to 7-5 and advanced the other two runners. Josh Fields followed with a triple to tie the game and scored the go-ahead run on Bard's fourth hit of the game. Elian Herrera completed the uprising with another scoring fly ball.
Hollingsworth was tagged with the loss after yielding five runs on four hits and a pair of free passes over 2 2/3 innings for a weary and heavily taxed bullpen. Smith was not involved in the decision after allowing four runs on 10 hits while striking out seven and not walking a batter over his 5 1/3 innings of work.
Irving Falu started the game with a double and scored on a one-out single by Tony Abreu, who had his fifth three-hit game of the season. The Isotopes put runners at second and third with one out in the third but Smith worked out of the jam by striking out Jerry Sands and Jeff Baisley to keep it a 1-0 game.
Smith, however, wasn't as fortunate against the same two hitters in the fifth, as Sands and Baisley delivered back-to-back run-scoring singles to put the Isotopes in front, 2-1. Both middle of the order hitters then scored on a looping base hit by Scott Van Slykeoff the glove of second baseman Johnny Giavotella to complete a four-run rally.
Mike Parisi kept the Chasers in check over five frames, allowing a lone run on seven hits before the Albuquerque bullpen blew up, again. Francisco Felix walked two and gave up a hit to the first four batters he faced setting up Anthony Seratelli's grand slam to straight away centerfield that put the visitors back in front, 5-4.
The series concludes Monday afternoon with Omaha right-hander Vin Mazzaro making the start against Albuquerque southpaw Michael Antonini. Coverage of the game gets underway at 12:45 pm and can be heard locally on AM 1180 and online at omahastormchasers.com.
