Padres Rally Late but Fall

April 15, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Padres News Release

The Tucson Padres late comeback fell one run short Sunday, losing to the Salt Lake Bees, 5-4. After being shut out and held to one hit through seven innings, the Padres came alive in the eighth, scoring four runs, three of which came with two outs. Blake Tekotte hit an RBI double in the rally, one batter before James Darnell's two-run home run to center field. Daniel Robertson reached base representing the tying run in the ninth, but was left on base when Mike Trout ran down Matt Clark's fly ball on the warning track in center to end the game.

Padres reliever Colt Hynes made a spot start for Tucson, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing two runs. Hynes was able to pitch 4.2 innings on only 46 pitches before departing. Ryan Kelly pitched a scoreless top of the ninth to keep the deficit at one. The Padres used four relievers instead of a standard starting pitcher, as Sunday was Joe Wieland's spot in the rotation. Wieland is now in the Major Leagues with the San Diego Padres.

Trout was 3-for-3 against Padres pitching and is now 5-for-7 in the series. The loss drops the Padres to 3-8, while Salt Lake advances to 7-4.
