Tacoma Rainiers News Release
FRESNO, CA -- The Rainiers offense put together a 14-hit performance and powered Tacoma to an 11-1 win over the Fresno Grizzlies at Chukchansi Park on Saturday night.
Six members of Tacoma's lineup turned in multi-hit efforts in the contest, with Trayvon Robinson, Carlos Triunfel, Mike Carp, Vinnie Catricala, Luis Jimenez, Luis Rodriguez and Chih-Hsien Chiang each collecting a pair of hits against the Grizzlies.
The runs came early and often for the Rainiers, beginning with two runs in the first inning. The third baseman Catricala scored Robinson with a two-out RBI single to put Tacoma up 1-0, and two batters later, Chiang drove in Catricala with a line-drive single.
The Rainiers held a 7-1 lead after four frames, highlighted by Luis Jimenez's two-run home run in the third and Carlos Triunfel's two-out RBI-double in the fourth. Catricala stretched the lead to eight after clearing the way for two more runs with a double in the sixth. Triunfel and Carp drove in a pair of runs in the seventh with a bases-loaded single and a ground out.
The outfielder Carp went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI in the second game of his Major League rehab assignment with Tacoma.
Rainiers starter Anthony Vasquez (2-0) held the Grizzlies to one run and four hits over 6.0 innings. The left-hander has now turned in nine consecutive quality starts with the Rainiers dating to July 10 of last season. Relievers Jarrett Grube and Josh Kinney combined to toss 3.0 shutout innings and fanned three out of the bullpen.
The Rainiers (5-5) take the field for the third game of the club's four-game series with Fresno at 2:05 p.m. on Sunday, April 15. Right-hander Matt Fox (0-2, 2.25 ERA) is slated to get the start for Tacoma against Grizzlies left-hander and former Rainiers pitcher Travis Blackley (0-0, 0.00).
The game will be broadcast live on South Sound Sports 850-AM and can be streamed online at www.tacomarainiers.com.
