Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers offense failed to find a flow and came up short against Round Rock 2-1 in extra innings at Cheney Stadium on Saturday.
With the game tied at 1-1 heading into the 14th inning, former Rainier and current Round Rock infielder Oswaldo Navarro hit a single to centerfield that drove in outfielder Andrew Locke from third base and put the Express on top for good. Navarro plated the game's first run of the outing in the second with a double that also scored Locke.
The Rainiers managed to muster just four hits in the loss, which now finds the team in second place in the Pacific Coast League Pacific Northern Division for the first time since June 17. Salt Lake now takes over the top spot in the division with a half-game lead over Tacoma.
One of the Rainiers four hits came in the bottom of the seventh when outfielder David Winfree erased Round Rock's one-lead with a solo home run with two outs in the inning. Winfree finished the night leading the Rainiers with a 2-for-5 performance, including a single in the fifth.
Round Rock reliever Casey Daigle picked up his second win of the season after limiting the Rainiers to two hits over three scoreless innings over the 12th through the 14th.
The loss went to Rainiers right-hander Dan Cortes in his Triple-A debut. Cortes gave up the game-winning run to the Express on a night where he surrendered three hits with a walk and two strikeouts over two innings of action out of the bullpen.
Tacoma takes the field for the third game of their four-game set with the Express at 1:30pm on Sunday. Left-hander Mauricio Robles (0-0, -.--) is set to make his Triple-A debut for the Rainiers in the outing, with left-hander Andy Van Hekken slated to head to the hill for Round Rock.
