August 15, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
After a 28-minute rain delay in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Reno Aces broke a 4-4 tie with three runs in the top of the eighth, en route to a 7-4 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Sunday night.
New Orleans wasted little time scoring the game's first run, as Cameron Maybin laced a one-out single in the first inning, stole second base and advanced to third on a throwing error by Reno catcher Carlos Corporan before scoring on a RBI single by Mike Lamb.
The Aces tied the game in the following frame when Brandon Allen launched a one-out home run, his 23rd of the year and second of the series.
Reno took their first lead of the game later in the inning when pitcher Josh Collmenter hit a run-scoring single, plating Corporan.
The Z's regained the lead in the next half inning, as Brad Davis hit a two-run homer, scoring Bryan Petersen, who had reached on a leadoff walk, giving NOLA a 3-2 advantage.
Reno was held off the scoreboard until the top of the sixth inning, until Z' s starter Wes Whisler walked Collmenter and was removed for reliever Matt Peterseon, who was greeted by a two-run single from Chris Rahl to put Reno ahead 4-3.
Brian Barden quickly notched things up once again with a lead off homer in the following half inning, his second of the year, tying the game at 4-4.
Following the lightning and rain delay, Reno scored the winning runs in the eighth, after Mark Hallberg lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Ed Rogers.
The Aces added to their lead later in the inning, when Tony Abreu laced a two-out, two-run double to right field, scoring Corporan and Rahl.
Jose Marte (3-2) got the win after three innings of shutout relief, and Matt Peterson (3-1) was charged with three runs in 2 1/3 innings to take the loss.
The Z's and Aces wrap up their four-game series Monday night, as righties Brian Lawrence (9-7, 4.68) and Cesar Valdez (4-7, 4.95) square off.
