Tacoma Rainiers News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa -- Carlos Peguero homered twice and drove in four runs in the Tacoma Rainiers 8-2 series-opening win over the Iowa Cubs at Principal Park on Monday.
Peguero belted the first of two two-run home runs in the contest with two outs in the top of the first inning, giving Tacoma a quick 2-0 lead. The outfielder hit another two-run home run in the top of the third in what turned into a four-run frame for the Rainiers and stretched the lead to an insurmountable 6-0.
Peguero's two-home run night was the first posted by a Rainiers player since Alex Liddi hit two at home against Fresno on September 5 of last season. Peguero has now hit safely in each of his last seven games, batting .370 with four home runs and seven RBI over that span.
As a team, Tacoma combined to collect 15 hits on Monday. Designated hitter Luis Jimenez joined Peguero as one of two Rainiers to record three hits, going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Third baseman Vinnie Catricala turned in the Rainiers other multi-hit effort after collecting a pair of singles and driving in two runs.
Catcher Miguel Olivo went 1-for-3 with a single and a run scored in the first game of his Major League rehab assignment with the Rainiers.
Starter Forrest Snow (1-4) earned the first win of his 2012 campaign after holding the Cubs to one run on four hits while walking five and striking out four over 5.0 innings.
The Rainiers (18-26) look to stretch their winning streak to three games when they return for the second game of their four-game series at Iowa (18-25) tomorrow, May 22. Right-hander Erasmo Ramirez (1-0, 2.84) is scheduled to start for Tacoma against Cubs right-hander Chris Volstead (0-0, -.--). First pitch scheduled for 10:05 a.m.
