Nashville Pitching Stifles Padres

Tucson Padres News Release

The Tucson Padres scored once in the ninth inning but it was too little, too late in their 2-1 loss to the Nashville Sounds Sunday. Yasmani Grandal drove home Brad Davis with a pinch-hit single in the bottom of the ninth but Grandal was left on base as Sounds reliever Mike McClendon got Daniel Robertson to pop out to second base, ending the game. The Padres and Sounds split the four game series and Tucson has yet to win a series in 2012.

Nashville's Hainley Statia bounced a double over the left field wall to bring home Logan Schafer in the second inning for the Sounds first run. The second tally came when Sean Halton hit an RBI single to left in the fifth. Nashville starter Seth McClung pitched seven shutout innings for his first win of the season. The Padres had multiple scoring opportunites late in the game, leaving seven runners on base in their final five at bats.

The Padres did not have an extra base hit in the loss. Tucson starter Tom Layne pitched 5.1 innings, allowing two runs, both earned, while striking out six. Relievers Bear Bay, Nick Vincent and Cory Burns all pitched scoreless outings for the T-Pads.

Next Game: Monday, 7:05 pm - Memphis RHP Shelby Miller (4-2, 3.97) vs. Tucson LHP Colt Hynes (0-4, 5.08). KiiM-FM Family Night - Four tickets, four hot dogs, four sodas, all for only $20. Game coverage begins at 6:50 pm on Tejano 1600 AM.
