TACOMA, Wash. - In a night where pitching prevailed, the Tacoma Rainiers came up short in a 2-0 loss to the Tucson Padres in front of 4,737 fans at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday night.

Left-hander Rob Musgrave led a Padres staff that surrendered just five hits and ultimately dealt the Rainiers their second shutout of the season.

Musgrave (2-2) allowed just two hits and struck out five over six innings en route to collecting the win and Tucson's bullpen finished things off and allowed just three hits over the final three frames.

Tacoma also combined to give up just five hits and struck out 14 in the contest. Starter Erasmo Ramirez (3-2) surrendered both of the Padres' runs on two hits and fanned seven over six innings in a losing effort. Cesar Jimenez and Steve Delabar combined to strike out seven more over three scoreless innings of relief work.

The Padres collected the game's only runs in the top of the third. Designated hitter Kyle Phillips blasted a two-run home run, his second this season, with Luis Martinez aboard and no outs to permanently put Tucson up 2-0.

Outfielder Mike Wilson collected two of the Rainiers five total hits in the contest, including a double. Wilson has now hit safely in 13 of his last 14 appearances and turned in 11 multi-hit outings over that span.

The Rainiers (67-71) continue their series with the Padres (63-75) at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday.
