Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev. - Mark Hallberg and Andy Tracy hit back-to-back homers for the Aces in the seventh inning Tuesday, but that was all the offense Reno could muster against Fresno in a 5-2 loss at Aces Ballpark.
Despite the defeat, the Aces wrapped up the outright Pacific North Division title, as Tacoma fell to Tucson at Cheney Stadium. The division title is Reno's first in its third season as a franchise.
The Aces fell behind 4-0 after six innings, but rallied in the seventh. Hallberg hit an opposite-field solo home run before Tracy followed with a long drive to right, cutting Fresno's 4-0 lead in half. But that was as close as Reno would get, as the Grizzlies tacked on a run in the eighth and kept Reno off the board the rest of the way.
Kevin Mulvey (4-8) took the loss for the Aces, allowing three runs on five hits over five innings, striking out six without walking a batter.
Fresno starter Shane Loux (8-12) picked up the win, holding the Aces to two runs on three hits in 6.1 innings. Three Grizzlies relievers held Reno scoreless over the game's final 2.2 innings, anchored by Marc Kroon, who pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 20th save.
Aside from Hallberg and Tracy's back-to-back homers-the Aces' ninth back-to-back home runs this season-Reno managed just a single hit. Angel Berroa led off the third inning with a single, but was quickly erased on a ground-ball double play.
Reno and Fresno meet up again Wednesday night at Aces Ballpark. The Aces are scheduled to send LHP Zach Kroenke (9-3, 6.03 ERA) to the mound, while Fresno is set to counter with LHP Matt Yourkin (9-7, 4.59 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and is another 2-for-$22 Wednesday, where fans can get two general admission tickets, two hot dogs and two sodas for just $22.
Tickets for all Aces games, including the 2011 Pacific Coast League playoffs, are available today at RenoAces.com, the Aces Ballpark Box Office or by phone at (775) 334-7000. Discounted group tickets are also available.
