River City Rascals News Release
O'Fallon, Mo. - After rain postponed the series opener on Friday, not a drop fell during the double header on Saturday but the ThunderBolts remained as Windy City took both game from the Rascals by finals of 6-4 and 6-2 to keep their slim playoff chances alive.
In game one, Windy City (54-41) jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Rascal starter Doug Shields with a two-run homerun from Michael Torres in the first but River City (44-50) pounced on starter Blayne Weller, who was traded by the Rascals to the ThunderBolts in spring training, for four runs in the first with RBI's from Jeremy Synan, Charlie Lisk, and Matt Serna to take a 4-2 lead that chased Weller from the game.
The ThunderBolts would strike again in the third as Chad Cregar launched a two-run shot to right that tied the game at 4-4 and the Rascal offense would muster three hits the rest of the way. Windy City took a 5-4 lead in the fifth on a Cregar single and stretched it to 6-4 in the sixth when former Rascals Jareck West drove in a run by rolling into a fielder's choice.
In game two it was Cregar who again carried the ThunderBolt offense, crushing his 30th and 31st homeruns of the year to become just the fourth player in league history to reach the 30 homerun plateau, his second of which staked his team to a 4-0 lead in the fourth with a three-run blast.
The Rascals got a run in the third when Doug Sanders grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Zach Deutscher from third after he reached on a hit-by-pitch, advanced to second on one of three Eric Williams' singles, and stole third. River City would get as close at 4-2 when Chris Andreas crushed a big fly to right for his sixth homerun.
Windy City starter Dustin Williams was in control all night, allowing just the Andreas homerun and three singles by Williams en-route to a seven inning complete game that ended up 6-4 after Brandon Decker hit a two-run homer in the sixth.
River City wraps up the series and the season on Sunday with first pitch set for 6:05.
