Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Wisconsin Rapids, WI - June 20, 2012 - With a seven game winning steak on the line, and the Rafters down 5-2, the clouds opened up and dumped water on Witter Field. Play was delayed in the fifth inning in Wisconsin Rapids, and after an hour-and-eight minute rain delay, the game was suspended.
The Rafters scored in their first at-bat, a line drive home run off the bat of Sean Godfrey (SO, Ball State Univ.). Eau Claire starter Sean Renzi walked seven batters in his four innings of work before the rain, but the Rafters could not capitalize, as none of them would score.
Shane Adler (FR, Madison College) pitched out of trouble on multiple occasions and limited the damage in his spot start. In the fourth, though, Nick Addison clubbed his third homer in the three-game series, giving the Express a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth. After a Rafters run in the fourth, the Express knocked in two more in the top of the fifth.
Skyler Debilzen (JR, UW-La Crosse) came in on relief of Adler with the bases loaded in the fifth, and he gave up back-to-back to singles to make it 5-2 Eau Claire. Tim Zier popped out and then the rain erupted from the black clouds overhead.
The suspended game will be picked up where it was left off on July 9th. The two teams will complete the game, a full nine-inning game, before playing a second game, a seven-inning contest, the same evening.
Tickets for July 9th game will be good for both games. The first game will begin at 5:35.
Tickets for the June 20th game can be redeemed for a bleacher seat to a future 2012 regular season game by bringing your ticket stub to the box office at Witter Field. All food and beverage included in tickets from the June 20th game is considered used-in-full.
The Rafters (12-9) host the La Crosse Loggers (17-5) tomorrow night for Veolia Summertime St. Patty's Night before travelling to La Crosse for two weekend games Friday and Saturday night. The Rafters have the season's first off day on Sunday.
