
Honkers Win Second in a Row

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers have won their second game in a row by defeating the Alexandria Beetles 6-3 on Wednesday night.
With the victory, the Honkers have won their first series in more than two weeks.
Reid Roper came through in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run single to give the Honkers a 2-1 lead. Roper finished the game 2 for 4 and is now 7 for his last 12.
The Honkers gave up the lead in the bottom of the eighth but scored three runs in the top of the ninth highlighted by a two-run Dakota Smith (Kansas) triple to go back on top 6-3.
Smith was 1 for 2 for on the night with three runs and two RBIs.
After allowing an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning, Rochester starter DJ Snelten (Minnesota) settled down and cruised through the next four. Snelten finished with seven strikeouts and scattered just three Alexandria hits over 5.0 innings to pick up a no-decision.
The win went to relief pitcher Chad Wallach (Cal State Fullerton). Wallach pitched 1.0 inning and allowed two runs on two hit batters, a walk and a hit, but was awarded his first win of 2012.
Jared Allen (Tennessee) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up the save.
The Honkers (8-14) and Beetles (7-14) will complete their three-game series tomorrow night, June 21st in Alexandria with the first pitch at 7:05 PM. Honkers lefty starter Matt Kent (Texas A&M) will face Beetles starter Jon Reed (Memphis). Kent is 1-1 in three starts with a 1.66 ERA. Reed is 2-0 in six appearances, five of them out of the bullpen, with a 0.56 ERA.
The Honkers will not play at home until Monday, June 25th against the same Alexandria Beetles team.
