Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

Niles, OH-The rain that plagued the Mahoning Valley Scrappers recent road trip followed them back to Eastwood Field on Sunday afternoon, leading to a 1-0 loss to the Williamsport Crosscutters. The Scrappers allowed an unearned run on a passed ball in the second inning before an intense rain storm caused the game to be stopped after the fifth inning.

After a quick 1-2-3 inning to start the game, Triston McKenzie walked Bret Barbier with one out in the second inning. A base hit by Gregori Rivero would move Barbier to third. Barbier would then score on a passed ball by Scrappers' catcher Logan Ice. The unearned run would be the lone run of the game.

The Scrappers would put runners on base in every inning, stranding a total of five runners over the five innings. In the fifth inning Yonathan Mendoza would double and move to third with one out. However, the he would be stranded on base after a ground out and a strikeout.

McKenzie (4-3) was the tough luck loser in 5.0 innings of work. He allowed just the one unearned run on three hits. McKenzie walked two and matched a career high with eight strikeouts.
