Cleburne Railroaders News Release
CLEBURNE, Texas - Levi Scott went 2-for-3 with a walk, double and a run scored, but Cleburne's late rally ended with a 5-2 loss to the Sioux City Explorers at The Depot on Tuesday night.
Scott broke out of his slump with a single in the 2nd and then a two-out double in the 4th. After the double, he came around to score Cleburne's (8-10) first run on Alex Polston's RBI single that cut the Sioux City (15-4) lead to 4-1.
Cleburne entered the 9th inning down 5-1, but Axel Johnson singled in Polston and Blake Grant-Parks walked to load the bases and bring Trevor Sealey up as the game-winning run. Sealey then lined out to second and Jose Sermo stepped on second to double up Johnson and end the game.
The Explorers scored twice without a hit in the 2nd inning. Cleburne starter Patrick Young issued the first of his six walks to Nate Samson before hitting Jose Sermo. Samson eventually scored on a wild pitch and Sermo came in on an error.
The X's added to the lead in the 3rd with Jose Sermo's two-out, two-run double before Polston's run-scoring single in the 4th.
Polston went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI - his team-leading seventh multi-hit game - and K.C. Huth had a single in his first game at the second spot in the lineup.
Cleburne starter Patrick Young took his first loss as a Railroader after surrendering five runs across 6.1 innings, while Sioux City starter Justin Vernia gave up a run over 5.1 innings for his second win of 2018.
The Railroaders fall back to two games under .500 and the Explorers have won six in a row with the league's best record through 19 games.
The series finale is set for 7:06 p.m. Wednesday. RHP Roman Gomez will pitch for the Railroaders while RHP Luis Mateo will go for the Explorers. Good seats are available and can be purchased at www.railroaderbaseball.com or by calling (817) 945-8705.
