AirHogs Take Tuesday Opener vs. T-Bones

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Meng Weiqiang earned his first win, Pedro Hernandez picked up his first save, and Stewart Ijames reached base four times as the AirHogs downed the Kansas City T-Bones 3-2 Tuesday evening at AirHogs Stadium.

The win was the first to open a series for the AirHogs, who bounced back after an off day yesterday behind a strong start. Meng Weiqiang (1-2) went five innings, allowing one run on five hits and four walks while striking out five on the way to the victory.

The AirHogs got out ahead 1-0 in the first vs. Kansas City starter Hunter Adkins. Ijames and Dillon Thomas each doubled to put the AirHogs on top. Thomas would double again in the fourth and score on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Wagner to make it 2-0.

Kansas City struck for one but left the bases full in the fifth. Texas added an insurance run in the fifth on an RBI base hit by Ijames that scored first baseman Chu Fujia. The T-Bones would draw within one vs. reliever Yang Yanyong in the seventh before Taylor Wright and Pedro Hernandez combined for 2.1 innings of scoreless relief to close the game.

Adkins (1-2) took the loss after going five innings and allowing three runs (two earned). The save was the first of the year for Hernandez. The T-Bones left nine aboard. The AirHogs stranded seven. Kansas City outhit Texas 9-8.

The AirHogs (3-14) and T-Bones (9-8) meet again tomorrow at 7:05. LHP Tyler Matzek (0-1, 9.00 ERA) will get the start for Texas. RHP Barrett Astin (2-0, 4.50 ERA) will start for the T-Bones. A live broadcast will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs and americanassociationbaseball.tv.
