
RailHawks Acquire Midfielder Danny Barrera in Trade

CARY, NC (August 5, 2014) - Four weeks into the 2014 NASL Fall Season, the Carolina RailHawks have agreed to terms with the San Antonio Scorpions to send Costa Rican midfielder Cesar Elizondo to San Antonio in exchange for Colombian midfielder Danny Barrera.
"We are excited to add a young and talented player to our squad," said RailHawks Head Coach Colin Clarke. "I've been following Danny throughout the years and I know he is capable of scoring goals and creating chances for our team. He will fit really well with our locker room and will be an essential part of our roster as we attempt to win the 2014 NASL Championship."
Barrera, a Colombia-native appeared in 13 games this season for San Antonio where he scored a goal and generated two assists over 830 minutes played. Barrera signed with the Scorpions this past offseason after previously playing with the Atlanta Silverbacks during the 2012 and 2013 seasons. In 2013, he would go on to score four goals and record seven assists.
The 23-year old played collegiately for UC Santa Barbara, where he won the 2009 Big West midfielder of the year award.
"We would like to thank Cesar for his contribution to the organization during his time with the club," said RailHawks President Curt Johnson. "We wish him and his family all the best in their future endeavors."
During his time with the RailHawks, Elizondo appeared in 35 matches over all competitions, starting on 29 matches and scoring 3 goals.
Barrera and the RailHawks return to WakeMed Soccer Park this coming Saturday, August 9th to take on the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30pm and tickets are on-sale now.
