Indy Eleven's Brad Ring Receives One-Game Suspension from North American Soccer League

August 5, 2014 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
Indy Eleven News Release

INDIANAPOLIS (Tuesday, August 5, 2014) "" The North American Soccer League today informed Indy Eleven that defender/midfielder Brad Ring will be suspended for the team's match against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers tomorrow, Wednesday, August 6.

A red card shown to midfielder Sergio Peña in the 65th minute of last Saturday's game against the Atlanta Silverbacks was transferred to Ring, making him ineligible for tomorrow night's affair at Carroll Stadium versus the Strikers. Peña will now be available for selection by Indy Eleven Head Coach Juergen Sommer for the contest against Fort Lauderdale.

The league shared that the referee in the Eleven vs. Silverbacks game on Saturday issued a direct red card to Peña for Violent Conduct. The referee indicated that, after being whistled for a foul, Peña kicked the ball into the head of an Atlanta Silverbacks player. However, upon review, video evidence showed that it was actually Ring that kicked the ball, and it was determined the referee mistakenly issued the red card to Peña instead of Ring, resulting into today's transference of the accompanying one-match ban.

The red card to Ring was the second of the season shown to an Indy Eleven player. The other red card, shown to defender Fejiro Okiomah, also coincidentally came in the 65th minute of the first match-up between Indy Eleven and the Silverbacks in Atlanta back on June 7.
