Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Gary SouthShore RailCats established a season high for runs, and matched a season high total for hits in slugging past the Sioux City Explorers 12-11 on Thursday night in the final game of a seven game road swing.

Brian Kolb was thrown out at the plate attempting to score the first run for the RailCats in the top of the third inning. Sioux City used the momentum to create a run of their own in the bottom of the frame against RailCats starter Derrick Gordon. Ryan Priddy led off with a single, was sacrificed to second, and stole third. Priddy scored on a sacrifice fly from Dustin Jones to hand the X's a 1-0 lead.

The bats exploded for the RailCats in the top of the fourth, batting around and scoring four times to open a 4-1 lead. The inning began with Toddric Johnson inducing a walk from Sioux City starter Taylor King. Mike Rohde followed with a single and Chris Carrara legged out a bunt single to load the bases. Craig Maddox delivered his first two RBIs as a RailCat by depositing an opposite field single into left. Mike Massaro knocked in a run with a fielder's choice, and Cristian Guerrero finished off the scoring with an RBI single.

The offense continued in the fifth and sixth as part of nine unanswered RailCat runs. Four doubles keyed a three run fifth to chase King from the game. Johnson and Rohde doubled to open the inning with Johnson scoring on Rohde's two-bagger. With two outs Kolb doubled and scored on Klein's double, the fourth of the frame. Maddox recorded another two-run single in the sixth to extend the edge to 9-1.

The Explorers did not go quietly, scoring six runs in the sixth to chase Gordon from the game and pull within 9-7. Three more runs crossed for the RailCats in the seventh to extend the lead to 12-7, and despite allowing the tying run to reach in the bottom of the ninth, David Nathanson tallied the save.

Every member of the RailCats lineup recorded at least one hit with seven posting more than one in the contest. Rohde notched four and Kolb three to lead the offense. Maddox posted four RBIs.

The RailCats open a series with Winnipeg at U. S. Steel Yard tomorrow night with fireworks following the contest on Boy Band Night. RHP Scott Shaw (2-2, 6.33) pitches for the RailCats against RHP Dustin Glant (1-2, 5.21) for Winnipeg. Other homestand highlights include Where's Waldo Night and a beanie giveaway on Saturday, an appearance from White Sox legend Carlos May on Sunday with a baseball glove giveaway, and a visit from Chris Medina of American Idol on Monday for Solo Night plus much more.
