Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, Ind. - The RailCats have made their first roster move of the regular season, signing right-handed pitcher Kyle Lindquist and placing former Japanese Major Leaguer Takahiro Matsuka on irrevocable waivers.

Lindquist, who was in spring training with the RailCats, spent last season with the Rockford RiverHawks of the Frontier League working mostly as a multi-inning reliever. In 11 appearances and two starts, Lindquist compiled an 0-1 record a 5.40 ERA. The righty threw 28 innings, allowing 19 runs, 17 earned for Rockford.

The RailCats acquired Lindquist in a trade with Rockford on Nov. 12, 2012 in exchange for left-handed pitcher Jon Gulbransen. Lindquist pitched collegiately at Division III Marietta College, where he was a first-team All-American in 2012.

Matsuka made his American debut on Friday night and lasted just 1/3 of an inning, giving up three runs and two earned. He hit two batters and walked one. Matsuka briefly pitched in the Japanese Major Leagues in 2009 and 2010, first with the Yokohoma Bay Stars and then the Nippon Ham Fighters.

The RailCats will meet Lincoln for game three of a four-game series tonight at 6:10 p.m. at U. S. Steel Yard. The first 1,000 fans will receive a RailCats baseball cap.
