St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - Up and down the lineup the St. Paul Saints got huge contributions, but it was Joey Becker and Brad Boyer who helped lead the way in a 15 hit attack, with both players collecting four hits and scoring four runs, as the Saints defeated the New Jersey Jackals 14-9 on Saturday night at Midway Stadium in front of 3,557.

The Saints jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first three innings. They put up a three spot in the first inning when Dan Kaczrowski led off with a walk and scored when Joey Becker doubled him home. Brad Boyer followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0. After Craig Brazell walked Willie Cabrera made it 3-0 with an RBI single.

In the second, Becker, who had just six home runs in his six year career, hit a solo homer to left, to make it 4-0 Saints. Boyer followed with a triple and Brazell walked. Cabrera knocked home his second run of the game with an RBI single and two batters later Jose Hernandez made it 6-0 with an RBI fielder's choice.

With the Saints leading 7-2 in the fifth Kaczrowski reached on an infield single to short. Becker followed with a single to center and Boyer knocked home Kaczrowski with a single to right. The throw to the plate went past the catcher Kyle Nisson allowing Becker to score giving the Saints a 9-2 lead. With Boyer at third Brazell knocked him home with an RBI ground out to make it 10-2.

The Saints looked to have a comfortable lead, but the Jackals exploded for six in the seventh. Chris Curran, Jeremy Barnes, Chris Duffy and Nick Giarraputo all singled consecutively to make it 10-3. With one out Jose Cuevas launched a grand slam, his first homer of the season, to make it 10-8.

The Saints extended the lead, however, in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run single from Tripp to make it 12-8. They tacked on two more in the eighth on a sac fly from Becker and an RBI single from Boyer.

Becker and Boyer became the 42nd and 43rd players in Saints history to score four runs in a game and it was the first time in Becker's career and just the second time Boyer had recorded the feat.

The same two teams meet Sunday afternoon in the finale of the four game series at 1:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Anthony Claggett (NR) to the mound against Jackals LHP Craig Bennigson (NR). It is Dog Day at the Park presented by University of Minnesota Veterinary Medical Center. The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB and in the ballpark on 87.9 FM.
