AirHogs Fall in Game One

May 18, 2013 - American Association (AA)
Grand Prairie AirHogs News Release

The AirHogs started their season off the hard way with a trip from the defending American Association champions, the Winnipeg Goldeyes. The Goldeyes struck in the 4th inning, but the AirHogs came right back in the bottom of the 4th when Juan Richardson hit one over the right field fence. He wasn't the only one to homer as Winnipeg's Josh Mazzola sent one deep. Derek Blacksher went 5.1 innings giving up 4 earned runs in the loss. Matthew Rusch gets the win for the Goldeyes.

Coming out of the bullpen Marshall Schuler went 1.2 innings with no hits. The bullpen allowed no more runs after Blacksher's four runs. A combined effort from Schuler, Patrick Mincey, David Quinowski, and Derrick Miramontes for 0 runs the rest of the game. Unfortunately for the Hogs it was not enough. Winnipeg jumped to a 4-2 lead in the 6th and never lost it.

On a positive note, Scout, the new mascot, made a roaring introduction. He was driven in a convertible around the field. The fans absolutely loved his wild antics including his race around the bases and knocking out the intern. Even Scout's big entrance couldn't help the AirHogs today.
