
RailCats Outhit RedHawks But Lose 7-2

FARGO, ND- The Gary SouthShore RailCats (39-40) managed one more hit than the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (39-39) but fell 7-2 to lose their second straight game.
Fargo starting pitcher Tyler Alexander scattered seven hits over seven innings and prevented the 'big hit' to earn the win for the RedHawks. The American Association's strikeout leader allowed one run and struck out five batters. The RedHawks' pitching staff did not give up an extra base hit to the RailCats. Overall, Gary SouthShore outhit the RedHawks 8-7.
Dustin Geiger supplied the offense for Fargo. The former-RailCat was 3-4 with four RBI and two runs. He hit two doubles and solo home run.
The RailCats scored in their first at bat of the game for the second contest in a row. Cameron Newell started the game with a walk Reggie Wilson was hit by a pitch in the next at bat. Then, Chase Harris singled Newell home to make it 1-0. Alexander then retired the next three batters to prevent the RailCats from grabbing a big lead.
Fargo responded with offense of their own in the bottom of the 1st. They loaded the bases with two outs for Geiger who came through with a bases clearing double. The score was 3-1 going to the 2nd inning.
Geiger connected with the ball again in the 4th inning, this time with a solo home run to make it 4-1. RailCats starter Travis McGee was pulled after the 4th. He gave up four runs on five hits and two walks compared to five strikeouts. The right-hander was charged with the loss.
The knockout punch came in the bottom of the 6th inning. The RedHawks loaded the bases against RailCats reliever Paul Perez with Charlie Valerio at the plate. The catcher hit a single that scored two runs. Brian Humphries followed with a RBI sacrifice fly that made the score 7-1.
The RailCats managed one more run in the 8th inning. Reliever Will Mathis walked Wilson to start the frame and hit Frank Martinez with a pitch two batters later. Alex Crosby singled to load the bases before Wilson scored on a wild pitch.
The game was played in front of 3,780 fans at Newman Outdoor Field and was delayed one hour and 21 minutes due to rain at the start of the game. The win gave the RedHawks a 2-1 lead in the four game series.
