Wichita Wingnuts News Release
Hello All,
After seeing a ninth-inning rally fall a run short last night in Winnipeg, the Wingnuts will look to bounce back as they continue their four-game set with the Goldeyes this evening at Shaw Park. Wichita Wingnuts (48-29) at Winnipeg Goldeyes (45-31) RHP Eddie Medina (5-3, 4.88) vs. RHP Mikey O'Brien (8-4, 4.80) 6:00 p.m. - Shaw Park (Winnipeg, Manitoba)
COMEBACK FALLS JUST SHY
The Wichita Wingnuts scored three runs in the ninth inning, but saw their comeback attempt fall a run short as they dropped an 8-7 decision to the Winnipeg Goldeyes Friday night at Shaw Park. The Wingnuts scored first for the second day in a row, as an RBI single by Martin Medina made it 1-0 in the first. Winnipeg responded by taking advantage of four walks to score four in their half of the first. Both teams added a run in the second, as Christian Stringer and Reggie Abercrombie each drove in a run for their side. Medina brought Wichita within a run with a two-run single in the fifth, but the Goldeyes once again answered, plating two of their own in the home half. Winnipeg pushed their lead to four in the eighth, when David Rohm singled in the difference-making insurance run. In the ninth, Wichita was down to their last out when they loaded the bases on two hit batters and a single. An error brought in two runs, and a single reloaded the bases. Richard Prigatano singled to close the gap to one, but Eric Eadington put an end to the Wingnuts comeback attempt with a strikeout.
EASY EDDIE
Eddie Medina comes into tonight's start at Winnipeg on a roll, having won each of his last three starts, and five decisions in a row overall. The righty's most recent start was his best of the year, as he yielded a run on just two hits with five strikeouts over seven innings in a win at Lincoln six days ago. The St. John's University product has turned in four straight quality starts, allowing two earned runs or fewer in each of those outings. Medina's start tonight will be his first career appearance against Winnipeg.
QUICK HITS
The Wingnuts outhit the Goldeyes 12-8 in last night's loss, but all 12 Wichita knocks were singles, whereas Winnipeg collected four doubles and also drew 11 walks...Martin Medina led the Wichita offense last night with three hits and three RBIs, both tying career-highs...Jesse Pratt worked five and two-thirds innings of relief last night, and has now gone 12.2 innings with four earned runs allowed and ten strikeouts over his last two relief outings, both coming after starters were knocked out in the second.
