SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Gary South Shore RailCats held on late to beat the Sioux Falls Canaries 6-5 in 10 innings. The RailCats held off the Canaries after not being able to close out the game in the home half of the ninth.
The RailCats held a 5-3 lead but Sioux Falls was able to push two runs across to tie the game and send the game to extra innings off of RailCats reliever Jack Wagoner. But the RailCats fought back getting lead off single from Wally Backman in the 10th who was moved to second on a Justin Gominsky sac bunt. With one out Jeremey Hamilton singled to put runners at the corners for Zac Mitchell. Sioux Falls would tie it in the bottom of the sixth when Carlos Mendez drove in the tying run with a single to left center. Coombs would work out of the inning on a double play ball and would go on to work seven innings in a no decision.
The RailCats would come right back in the stretch inning and grab the lead back sending nine men to the plate. Justin Gominsky started the inning with a double off of starter Joe Bircher (ND). After a wild pitch moved Gominsky to third Zac Mitchell doubled to give the RailCats the lead at 2-1. Gary added another run after Danny Pulfer was hit by a pitch by reliever Kirk Clark.
