RailCats Held to 4 Hits in 5th Straight Loss

LINCOLN, NEB. - Hideki Nagasaka pitched six shutout innings, Josh Patton hit a two-run homer, and the Lincoln Saltdogs moved to within one game of the NL South Division lead with an 8-1 victory over the Gary SouthShore RailCats at Haymarket Park.
Nagasaka yielded just one hit and one walk while striking out five, and faced just three batters more than the minimum over six inning to record his third win in his last four starts.
The Saltdogs scored in five of their eight half-inning at-bats. Ian Church's two-out, two-run single in the third opened the scoring, and Patton put the Saltdogs ahead 5-0 with a fifth-inning homer.
The RailCats managed just four hits in the game, and ended a 20-inning scoreless streak by plating an unearned run in the eighth off reliever Alex Carbajal.
The win for the Saltdogs, combined with Joliet's 5-3 win over Schaumburg, moved Lincoln (24-15) to within one game of Schaumburg in the first-half pennant race. Both contenders have nine games remaining.
The game was delayed 2:26 by the threat of rain, and ended after midnight in the Nebraska capital.
The RailCats (11-29), who have lost five consecutive games, continue their 12-game road trip Saturday night in Lincoln, with the second of a three-game series against Saltdogs. Saturday's game will be broadcast on the RailCats Radio Network, including WEFM 95.9, WJOB 1230 AM, and www.sportsjuice.com, beginning at 6:45 p.m.
The RailCats return to U. S. Steel Yard on Friday, July 9, to begin at three-game series with Sioux City.
