Texas AirHogs News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The AirHogs fell to the Gary SouthShore RailCats 5-3 in 12 innings Monday. The contest was the 1st of a 6-game homestand for the AirHogs.
Cody Hebner got the ball to start, and the righty allowed 2 early runs to the RailCats on a walk, a double, a hit by pitch and an RBI groundout in the top of the 1st, but bore down to hold them scoreless over the next 4 innings.
The AirHogs got 1 back in the 4th on an RBI double by Michael Miller that scored Burt Reynolds for the 30th time this season. Michael Valadez then led off the 5th with a solo homer to equalize the score at 2. The blast off Gary starter Karl Triana was the 1st of the year for Valadez.
Hebner was knocked from the game on an RBI single by Jarred Mederos in the 6th. Relievers Tyler Ihrig and Richard Suniga held the RailCats scoreless and hitless from the end of the 6th through the 9th to give the AirHogs a chance to erase the 1-run deficit once again.
Michael Miller would help do just that on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 9th that scored Austin Gallagher.
The extra inning affair was the 4th of the year for the AirHogs. Each team failed to score with 2 on in the 10th and sent the minimum to the plate in the 11th. In the 12th, the RailCats loaded the bases against reliever Alan Oaks and got an RBI single from Elbert Devarie and a run on a hit by pitch to Jose Gonzalez. The 2 runs built a 5-3 lead the RailCats would not relinquish.
The AirHogs (13-18) take on the Gary Southshore Railcats (16-15) tomorrow evening at AirHogs Stadium. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm. LHP Griffin Russell will start for Texas.
