Kansas City, Kansas: The Gary SouthShore RailCats scored two runs in the ninth inning to come from behind and defeat the Kansas City T-Bones 6-5 on Sunday evening, taking two of three in the series for their third straight series win. The RailCats, who lost 24-1 on Saturday, trailed most of the game on Sunday before rallying against Kansas City closer Byron Embry to improve to 9-14 overall this season. They have won six of the last nine games.

Trailing 5-4 in the ninth, Eric McNamee led off the inning with a walk against Embry. Nathan Haynes grounded out to first, but Kansas City first baseman Charles Peterson threw wildly to second trying to complete the back end of a double play and McNamee went to third with one out. Steve Haake lined a double to the right field fence to bring in McNamee and tie the game. Jermaine Allensworth hit a hard ground ball to third that was mishandled by Brandon Jones for an error, allowing Haake to go to third. Then Tanner Townsend drilled a liner to left that was caught by Pat Magness, and Haake tagged at third and scored to give Gary the lead. On the same play, Allensworth, who was running on the pitch, was doubled off first base, but Haake touched home before the out was recorded on Allensworth and the run scored.

Travis Kerber pitched a scoreless bottom of the ninth for the RailCats for his third save. He allowed a two out infield single to Eddie Pearson on a ball off his glove. The next hitter, Pat Magness also grounded one off the glove of Kerber, but Travis raced over to pick up the ball and throw to first to get Magness by a step.

Steve Edsall (1-1) threw two scoreless innings to record the win. Edsall has not allowed a run over his last eight games covering 13 and one-third innings.

Allensworth hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning that gave the RailCats a brief 4-3 lead before Kansas City scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead.

The RailCats are off Monday before returning to action Tuesday at Joliet in a 6:05 p.m. game. Willie Glen (3-2, 5.18) will start for Gary.

Petty played at Emporia State University this spring, going 3-0 with nine saves and a 3.45 earned run average ¦Both Haake and Chris Curry extended their hitting streaks to seven games for the RailCats¦Jay Pecci missed his sixth straight game with a strained hamstring but is expected to return Tuesday in Joliet¦The last six RailCats wins have been come-from-behind victories. The Gary bullpen has allowed just three runs in 23 innings in those wins. In the last three Gary losses, the bullpen has allowed 28 runs in 12 and two-thirds innings. The RailCats were outscored 37-16 in the series at Kansas City but still managed to win two of three.
