Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - Fargo-Moorhead saw an early lead slip away and later tied the game twice but was never able to retake the lead as the RedHawks fell in the series finale, 7-5, to the Calgary Vipers during Sunday's afternoon game at Newman Outdoor Field.
Joe Mathis scored the first run of the game and gave the RedHawks an early 1-0 lead after the first inning. He led off the game with a single and advanced around the bases on a stolen base, an error on the catcher, and a sacrifice fly by Richard Austin.
In the top of the second inning Calgary plated two runs. RedHawks starter Brandon Goltz walked the first batter and then gave up a home run to Jason Colson as the Vipers grabbed a 2-1 lead.
The RedHawks tied the game in the bottom of the third inning, again in part to an error. In the fifth inning both teams posted three runs and remained tied. After Brent Krause struck out to begin the fifth inning for Fargo-Moorhead, Austin doubled and Ruben Salazar walked before Eric Kofler hit his league-leading sixth homerun.
Calgary again took the lead in the top of the seventh when Colson drove in Aaron McEachran and Carlos Duncan for a game-ending score of 7-5.
Jason Glosser was credited with his first loss of the season for Fargo-Moorhead while Calgary's Brad Rogers got the win and Jon Huizinga picked up the save.
Fargo-Moorhead (16-7) still holds the best record in the Northern League and the West Division and will travel to Winnipeg, Manatoba, on Monday to begin a three-game series with the Goldeyes. The RedHawks will send Todd George (2-0, 3.52) to the mound to take on Chad Scarbery (1-0, 2.54).
Win: Brad Rogers (3-0). Loss: Jason Glosser (0-1). Save: Jon Huizinga (2). Time: 2:38 // Attendance: 2,511
